Lou found his appeal for portrait photography while studying design at Art school. He spent his early years assisting major photographers and setting about a personal project of photographing British Actors.

He has photographed many celebrities such as John thaw, Rob Brydon, Sir John Gielgud, Julie Walters. As well as individual portrait commissions, Lou has also photographed some major advertising campaigns for Barclays Bank, McLaren, Cobra Group, Deutsche Bank, Continuum Publishing, Church's Shoes.

The National Portrait Gallery in London has also acquired many of Lou's photographs for their permanent collection.
